I made these treats for Adam's team after their hockey game this afternoon. Did you know you can buy individual colours of M&Ms in bulk? The Candy Aisle in Steveston has them this way so I got the Olympic colours to make the Olympic rings.
We have enjoyed watching ski jumping, moguls and long and short track speedskating on tv today. We can't believe how amazing our Richmond Olympic Oval looks!
There have been many protests about the Olympics here in Vancouver...some peaceful but some have turned destructive and violent. I just don't see how causing destruction can possibly draw any positive attention to your cause. I am conflicted about how we choose to spend our money and what we value in our society...I think about this a lot, but there is something about the tradition and values of the Olympics that resonates with me. I so value the ideals of hard work, determination, passion, courage, hope and unity that I think the Olympic games embody. As our boys head out to play their sports, I always remind them to work hard and have fun. There are so many life lessons involved in sports, particularly in team sports.
So as I reflect upon and celebrate the ideals of the Olympics, today I watched...
This boy who runs his heart out in the pouring rain and then celebrates with his team.
And this boy who brings so much passion and perseverance to his game.
We were all so moved by Jenn Heil's graciousness tonight as she spoke after winning Canada's first medal of the games...a silver in moguls! As Neil reminded the boys...your true character shows through not in how you win but in how you lose. Not that a silver medal is anything to scoff at but Jenn was "expected" to win gold and she handled the whole evening so well.
The boys and I created a couple of laser light designs online and submitted them to Vectorial Vancouver and then watched them happen live!! Was anyone downtown Vancouver just before 10pm on Saturday night...our light designs were above English Bay! So fun!
