We looked through the shape photographs the students had taken one last time and the students chose some things they wanted to go outside and investigate. Some of the problems or questions they came up with for the photos could be answered just by looking at the photo but there were some that the students would need to go out and measure or try out. One group of students wondered how many students they could fit on this circular balancing platform.
And they tested it out today...
A student wondered how long this bar on the playground was:
He took a metre stick with him outside and with the help of some other students measured its' length to be 277 cm.
A student noticed shapes in the spokes of this bicycle's wheels and was curious what the circumference of the wheel would be.
When we went out today, we couldn't find this specific bike but the students measured the circumference of another bike wheel to be 210 centimetres.
We tried to visualize opening up the bicycle wheel and laying it flat and it being almost as long as the playground bar!
