On Tuesday, I pulled two purplish bulbs and two whitish bulbs out of a paper bag. The students thought they were onions! I showed them the little flowering bulb pamphlets I had got at Prickly Pear and showed them what a hyacinth looked like. The students still wondered why the bulbs were different colours though. Some have predicted that the flowers will be different colours. We'll just have to wait and see ;)
We "planted" the forced hyacinth bulbs in bulb vases. These vases are great for children as they can see the root development in the water.
They've been checking them regularly to see if anything is happening yet! One little girl came up to me and said, "I can never get enough of science!" And I just smiled.
