We need long weekends for different reasons. To rejunvenate, to relax, to get away or in my case this weekend, to get lots of work done! It was a productive weekend balanced with time with friends and family, getting outside, a trip to a new Target in North Delta and some time in the garden.
The May long weekend also signals that summer is just around the corner and oh, I am needing summer holidays for lots of reasons this year too!
The weather is amazing and it definitely feels like spring around here. I loved being able to walk out into the backyard in flipflops and cut some daffodils to bring inside for Easter. Everything in the garden is either bursting or about to burst into bloom!
We had a quiet Easter around here but the boys still wanted to dye a few eggs and we got them a few sweet treats to enjoy. And I just had to make some bunny cookies!
I went for a long walk with friends and the boys longboarded into Steveston, coming across a vintage car gathering which they loved. We had a birthday and Easter dinner out at Blue Canoe with Neil's dad and brother which was a lovely way to cap a gorgeous day in Steveston!
A great day for celebration.
Twelve photos on the twelfth day of the month following Ella's Take 12 photo challenge. This month's prompt was inspired by the American Thanksgiving and to think about the things in your life that you are thankful for. I think it's always a great time to be thankful and express gratitude whether it is our Thanksgiving or not!
At this moment, I am grateful for...
-the health and happiness of my family
-that it is once again Movember and that as a mother of two sons, this is a cause I can support (mustache bombing anyone?!)
-that our boys have opportunities to pursue their interests and passions
-the change of the seasons...I know I've said this a lot but I really do love seasonal changes
-the coziness that fall brings (even if dusk starts to close in around 4pm)
-time together around the dinner table (tonight was Japanese takeout) or at the kitchen counter (enjoying blueberry scones this morning)
On Friday, I bundled up in a blanket and sat out on the deck enjoying the sunshine on my face as a I read. The crisp air kept me from dozing off (it was academic reading) and I enjoyed autumn in the backyard.
This weekend also happened to be full of baking projects. I love to back all year round but something about baking in the autumn is so cozy and warms me and the house up.
I loved the idea of this apple braid I saw on Pinterest and printed the recipe a few weeks ago. I finally made it today. Very yum and I would definitely make this again. Super easy and looks lovely! The recipe can be found HERE.

And there were these new favourite cookies - macaroon kisses, also found on Pinterest and recipe is HERE. I am a coconut lover and this were a late night baking treat on Saturday night after I had submitted two writing assignments.
Colin had a soccer game in the glorious sun on Saturday morning. They won 9-2 and Colin had a great game after having been named MVP for last week's game!
The boys and I watched the Remembrance Day service in Ottawa and more homework was done by all of us and then Adam had a hockey game at Minoru on Sunday evening.
And Colin lovingly passed on his cold to Adam and I! Monday is the 12th and I am going to do my best to drag myself out of bed and take twelve photos!
Mushrooms pop up overnight, like magic. One day you can scan your backyard and nothing and the next day they are patches of mushrooms growing! Granted, we leave our fall leaves to decompose on our grass and feed the soil which in turn nourishes the growth of mushrooms but still. Everytime it happens this time of year I still do a little gasp and think wow, nature is amazing.
And sure enough, on my way out to get groceries this morning, the amanitas were growing on the corner as well. They've probably been there for few days now judging by their size but in my hazy morning drives to work, I've missed them. These ones are a little "toxic" but they are the mushrooms of fairies, sprites and pixies and take me back to magical childhood stories.
I can't wait to see what other mushrooms pop up in our neighbourhood!
