I am now going into my third year with this blog. What began as a way to document our year in 2010 (Project 365) has evolved to be more than a personal family journal. I have used this blog to help me focus my appreciation for The Simple Things and to improve my photography skills, I have participated in a few blog hops through Creating Keepsakes and I have posted favourite craft and baking projects. According to my stats through Google Analytics these projects seem to get pinned (Pinterest) a bit. In fact, the Angry Birds Cake Pops post has received the most pageviews of any post I've ever done. It continues to get hundreds of hits each month.
So although my parents in Arizona appreciate reading regularly and finding out what the boys are up to, I realize I have other readers who don't really care to read about yet another soccer or hockey game ;)
I've added some new features and widgets to the blog. I finally have a search feature which allows you to enter a topic and find posts with that topic/keyword in either the post title or in the body of the post. This comes in handy if you want to see all my posts on cake pops, for example. If I only knew how helpful this would be, I would have added this feature from the start. Many times, I have scrolled through all my posts trying to find something in particular.
I've also finally starting categorizng my posts and there is a category cloud on the right side bar. So, if you only want to see craftiness posts, you can click on that category and see all those posts only. I will be categorizing all my posts as I go for 2012 but am considering going back and categorizing all my other posts...but geesh, that is 619 posts!
I've added a widget through PostRank that keeps track of the five most current popular posts (of the last 50 posted) and shares links to them. I'm not sure if it is exactly what I was looking for but I'm going to give it a go. It seems to be a little tempermental and as I post this, it seems to be showing the top five PostRank posts instead of the top five posts from my blog. I thought I had got the feed hash code sorted out, but maybe not! When it's working it's supposed to look like this:
And I've updated my photo albums and projects for 2012. My reading list has been pretty stagnant...not much reading other than academic literature right now!
I am hoping that some of these little changes to the blog will help myself and others navigate a little better and find what we're looking for!
