Every birthday is special around here, but there are some milestone birthdays that make you pause a little, like turning 16. How did we get to this point where we have two teenagers of driving age? It kinds of sneaks up on you, even though you know it's coming.
A very happy 16th birthday to Colin with his current favourite - a coconut cake!
Colin and his Uncle Glenn share birthdays a day apart so we always enjoy a nice family meal out together - this year we had lunch at the Boathouse.
And this afternoon, after a pro-d day to study, I came home from work and took Colin to write his knowledge test for his driver's license. Neil met us there and we had a very happy Colin to receive his L!
Colin and I stopped at his school parking lot just as the sun was setting so he could do practice driving - starting the car, turning the lights on, accelerating, stopping, turning and parking. He was amazingly calm and listened carefully to my instructions.
I've been thinking a lot about Colin this month - how he made such a spirited entrance into this world and how he continues to bring joy to my life in so many ways. He challenges me, he provokes me, he inspires me. I admire the determined, compassionate young man he is. It has been quite a ride!
