Adam has been away in Japan for over 10 days now and I am so looking forward to his return on Tuesday! It just hasn't been the same at home without him. Although not on the scale of Adam's grand adventure, we have all had our own little adventures here at home.
The first night Adam was gone, Colin decided to do some tree parkour and had a tangle with a tree. His face was a bit of a mess!
I have been tracking Adam's activities in Japan, which has done a number on my sleep cycle with Japan being 16 hours ahead timewise. Trying to text or talk to him when we can and waiting for any news or facebook posts from parents who are there has had my notifications on my phone binging during the early morning hours. So I end up getting little sleep until later in the morning which then makes me not very tired at night. This seems to happen to me every summer for different reasons. This year, I have watched all four seasons of Downton Abbey late into the night as I wait for news from Japan!
Neil did a four day bike trip to Seattle and back, all by himself. He's done this before but this year he spent two full days of the trip in pouring rain. It's kind of his thing though and I think he enjoyed getting away on his own.
Me, I'm not so ambitious physically and have enjoyed lots of walks!
Colin and I also had our own little getaway to Japan and treated ourselves to izakaya at Kobe downtown (thanks again to Groupon) and Colin bought a bonsai tree (something he has often commented on wanting) at Sunrise Bonsai Greenhouse down on Renfrew.
While Neil was away on his last day of his bike trip, we crossed the border heading south about the same time he crossed it heading north. Colin had ordered a fixie bike and we needed to pick it up in Bellingham. We turned around and came home with a bike and some favourites from Trader Joe's.
Our golden plums are ready to pick and just to continue with my summer of canning, I found a recipe for a plum jelly I want to try but needed some honey. My local honey place has always been Westham Island Herb Farm and so I took a drive out on Sunday. Lots of memories of visiting this island when we lived in Ladner and when the boys were younger.
Colin has really enjoyed going to some classes and open gyms at Origins Parkour on Main Street. He went a bit last summer as an intro but has commited to this being his summer "thing" this year.
I've enjoyed exploring the shops in the Mount Pleasant area and Colin and I have tried out a couple of new restaurants there too.
Using an expired Groupon (trying to use some of those up this summer!), Colin and I did the Greenhart Canopy Walkway out at UBC. It was a beautiful day and fun to walk and swing amongst the trees.
Colin and I also visited one of my favourite local beaches, Spanish Banks...brings back memories of my UBC days. The tide was so far out...we walked forever before we came to the ocean's edge. Next time, Colin's going to remember to bring his skimboard!
We are so luck to live where we live...every day can be like going on a holiday!
