The house is a little quieter this evening. Adam is on a plane heading to Orlando for an Arts and Science school trip for ten days. Sigh.
Yesterday, he got himself packed, did his own laundry, went through his packing list a few times, wrote reminder notes to himself. He was ready. He was so excited, he hardly slept last night.
I went back to the school in the afternoon to see Adam off on the bus and deliver his passport and money. This is the first big trip he's been on that he's had to deal with taking care of that kind of stuff on his own. His excitement was palpable and I just stayed to the side watching all the goings on with some other moms.
One of the girls in this program designed a tshirt for the trip and Adam organized the ordering of the shirts. There is a caricature of each student in the program. So fun!
The students got on the bus and I stood on the sidewalk waving into darkened windows, not knowing if Adam could see me or not. I was just about ready to head to my car when Adam bounded out of the bus and gave me a big hug goodbye. I had hugged him goodbye in the morning at home and I knew he was good to go. What touches my heart is that he knew I needed that hug in the afternoon and at 16, in front of all his friends, he came off the bus and did that for me.
So although our home is a little empty, my heart is full. Love you Adam!
