Today is Food Day Canada, celebrating Canadian cuisine and local ingredients. Makes you think about how to define Canadian cuisine. I think it reflects a use of fresh, local ingredients with a mash-up of cultural influences. Richmond's food blogger shares her thoughts on it all here.
This morning, the boys awoke to the smell of blueberry scones baking. Earlier this week, I had picked up a box of Richmond bluebberies from Birak farms and we have been throwing them in everything!
I picked up a collection of fresh herbs and vegetables from the Terra Nova Farm Market. Colin and I enjoyed some local carrots and cucumbers with basil soy vinaigrette for lunch.
On my way home from the farm I stopped at the Ukrainian Catholic Church on Railway and picked up some perogies that are freshly made by the nice older ladies there and then went around the corner to buy some cabbage rolls from the ladies at the Ivan Franko Ukrainian Community Centre. Dinner was a replica Ukrainian feast from last weekend!
So today we had a bit of a mash-up of meals, very Canadian I think!
