The boys and I visit Crescent Beach every "first full day of summer holidays". It is a very long-standing tradition and we go rain or shine, low tide or high tide. Over the years there have been walks way way out, collecting sand dollars and shells. Other years we have skimboarded, boogieboarded, built sandcastles, had picnics, etc. We always end the visit with a Rainbow Twist icecream cone from the same place.
This year, my nephew was arriving in town and we had to pick him up the airport at 11:30. I assumed we would take him with us and we would go out in the afternoon. When I mentioned this to the boys, they were adamant that they would get up early and that we would go out in the morning. For boys that are now enjoying sleeping in til noon when they can, this told me how important this tradition was to them!
I woke up early this morning and checked the weather. Overcast but not raining. I woke the boys up and we drove out to one of our favourite places. It is really the kick off to summer for us!
There was walking and talking, playing with little crabs, finding some limpets and some cool rocks.
And of course, there was icecream!
