This year has been a year of "lasts" for us. This is Colin's last year in elementary school. This is a double-whammy for me, as it also means that as a family we are transitioning to having both boys in high school. Just after spring break, I filled out the last "lunch day" order I would ever have to fill out. And then we had his last "student led conference". Colin brought home a portfolio of his school work to go over with us.
There have been other lasts too and as I think about them or point them out to Colin, there is always a little heart falling that happens to me. We are moving on. Colin is ready to move on to high school but there is something comforting about elementary school...it is so much more family oriented and there is so much more of a community feel. It really is the hub of our neighbourhood. I feel connected and know from our experience with Adam that this disappears as the high school experience begins.
Today the sun streamed through the clouds and Colin put on his purple tshirt to be part of his "Men in Blurple" team. Today was Colin's last Sports Day.
I loved watching Colin in his element. I loved watching Colin help the little ones on his team. I loved being a part of what is one of my favourite elementary school events.
I took it all in and as I walked home to leave Colin to enjoy the rest of the day with his friends, I was grateful that I was there and so grateful for the wonderful elementary experiences Colin has had.
Just a few more "lasts" to go.

It was our sports day yesterday too. As we finished the final tug o war, I thought wow this is my last sports day for possibly 3 years. Then I remembered next year will be a first for me, Sarah's first sports day.
