This was a bit of an odd weekend. So quiet around the house!
Adam and Neil were at Adam's hockey tournament in Hope. Adam's team won their first game 9-1 and then won two on Saturday 4-2 and a comeback 8-7.
Colin and I hung out. He had a soccer game in North Van on Saturday. It was a gorgeous sunny day once we left the fog of Richmond. As we drove through downtown and Stanley Park and over the Lion's Gate bridge we were oohing and aahing at the beauty of Vancouver. Colin played full out and doesn't hesistate to get physical when he's after the ball.
On our way home after the game, we stopped at French Made Baking for a passionfruit hot chocolate and a macaron (yes, part of the Hot Chocolate Festival).
Colin stayed overnight at Jonah's house which left me all alone. Can't even remember the last time that's happened! I did some reading and got some writing done which is a good thing.
Adam's team won 2-0 on Sunday morning which meant they would be in the championship game at 4pm. Colin came home a little tired (I don't even want to know how late he stayed up!) and had his guitar lesson. Around 2pm, we decided to hop in my car and drive to Hope. It was a gorgeous day and the drive through the valley looking up at the snowcapped mountains gave me lots of time to do some synthesizing of all that I've been reading. Colin, on the other hand, took the opportunity to nap and make up for his lack of sleep from his sleepover!
We arrived at the arena just as Adam's team was warming up on the ice. I love watching hockey games and was so glad to be there. Neil said it was Adam's best game of the tournament and Adam scored the second goal for his team but they just couldn't come back against a strong team from 100 Mile House and lost 5-2. This was Adam's last Bantam tournament since we'll be away for spring break so I was glad I decided to drive up for the final game.
Adam got the award for Most Sportsmanlike Player and his team got second place trophies.
Adam's teams have won a lot of second places in tournaments, which is a hard place to be but this creates opportunities for learning to deal with loss and disappointment with grace. Life lessons. We said good-bye to Hope and drove to Langley to stop for dinner. I had the boys with me for the second leg home and they talked away the whole time in the back seat. It was so nice to hear them back together!
So at the end of the weekend, we're all pretty tired. Not exactly refreshed and rejuvenated to start a busy school week!
