After bouncing back from our power outage Friday night, we were off mid-day to the boys' games. We had to divide and conquer. Neil got the outdoor soccer in Burnaby. Brrr. Colin was so wet and cold. He got another goal though and dribble the ball through two guys to get it, and his team wond, so he was a happy guy. I got to to take Adam to his hockey game. Cold but not wet. Adam had a good game and I was standing right at the goal net to watch him score a great goal in the third period. His team ended up tieing against a strong New West team.
I made the infamous Jacques Torres chocolate chip recipe from the New York Times. I found it hard to believe that using a mixture of bread and pastry flour instead of AP flour would make that much of a difference but I really like the texture that came out.
I stopped by the Steveston Market this afternoon and picked up a couple of hazelnut macarons for the boys, some fresh ambrosia apples from the Okanagan and a stem of brussel sprouts.
I've been wanting to roast brussel sprouts after seeing so many versions on pinterest. I have never been a fan but I think it's all in the preparation. Mushy, bland vegetables just don't do it for me. I was inspired by the story and recipe from fellow blogger here.
I also made a green pea spread/dip that I tried at a party a few weeks ago. I loved the freshness of it and was trying to find a recipe online. Seems it originate from Jamie Oliver. I combined a few different recipes I found and think I got it pretty close to what I wanted.
Neil and I thought the brussel sprouts were okay, Adam gave them a try but they ruined Colin's dinner completely. I can so relate to that experience...I had it many times myself growing up.
Such a nice long weekend, minus the brussel sprouts for Colin!
